Log Cabin Republicans Launch Phoenix Chapter

PHOENIX – A new chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans has launched in Phoenix to provide a voice for the Republican Party within the LGBT community and to support inclusive Republican candidates and legislation in the fifth-largest city in America. Log Cabin Republicans is the nation’s largest Republican organization dedicated to representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies.

The official launch of the Log Cabin Republicans of Phoenix comes with just under three months to go before Election Day, and the group of LGBT conservatives will help support Republican candidates up and down the ballot throughout the rest of this campaign cycle. Long term, this group will continue the national organization’s successful advocacy efforts to promote an inclusive Republican Party and support LGBT-friendly candidates and legislation.

“This year, Arizona will play the most critical role it ever has in a national election, and every Republican in the state must rise to the occasion to help protect the very freedoms that make America great,” said Devin Slayton, president of the Log Cabin Republicans of Phoenix. “My goal as president of this Log Cabin chapter is to provide the ever-expanding community of LGBT Republicans in Phoenix with a platform to make a difference in November’s election, and in Arizona politics for years to come.”

The new Phoenix chapter supports last year’s decision by Log Cabin’s National Board of Directors to endorse President Donald J. Trump for re-election in November, and the local chapter will soon begin to announce endorsements of other Republican candidates in Arizona who have demonstrated a commitment to inclusion and equality.

Republican Party of Arizona Chairwoman Kelli Ward addressed the Log Cabin members during the group’s first meeting as an official chapter on Friday, Aug. 7. Just three days after the state’s Primary Election, Ward shared a unifying message while calling on all Republicans to come together ahead of the General Election on Nov. 3.

“President Trump is expanding the Republican Party far beyond what it has ever been before. Gays, Latinos, Blacks, Veterans, suburban housewives, and more are joining together to keep America great,” said Chairwoman Ward. “This is the perfect time to launch a Log Cabin chapter in Phoenix as more and more LGBT voters are realizing that radical leftist policies are destructive to our state and our country.”

The following individuals were elected to serve on the chapter’s Board of Directors:

  • Devin Slayton, President of the Board
  • Cale Ottens, Vice President of the Board
  • John Whitaker, Secretary
  • Nigel Hobbs, Treasurer
  • Cylee Gutting, Public Affairs Director
  • Justin Boerman, Community Relations Director
